The degree of gas rarefaction is an objective measure of vacuum, and the direct physical measure is the number of gas molecules per unit volume. The lower the density of gas molecules, the lower the gas pressure, and the higher the vacuum. However, due to historical reasons, measuring vacuum is usually expressed in terms of pressure. Pascal or Torr are commonly used as units of pressure in vacuum.
